The Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) Surpasses 2019 Passenger Counts in April 2021

Myrtle Beach, SC, May 13, 2021 – The Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is on track for a record-breaking summer as passenger volumes continue to climb. 2019 was previously their best recorded year for traffic.

In April 2021, the number of people arriving on flights, or deplanements, totaled 108,304 compared to 107,488 in 2019. Total passenger traffic, which includes both arriving and departing passengers, totaled 214,991 compared to 212,724 in April 2019.

“MYR is thrilled to have officially closed the gap in pre-pandemic passenger levels. The airport grows busier by the day and traffic is expected to surge with summer fast approaching, along with the upcoming inauguration of our newest airline – Southwest. Between our amazing airline partners and 50+ destinations, we are confident in our ability to shatter our current records for overall passenger traffic,” said Scott Van Moppes, Director of Airports. “Myrtle Beach continues to trend as a top tourism destination by national media agencies and our passenger counts reflect that demand. As a top performing airport in the United States, we’re elated to see such strong recovery for travel at MYR, which further reinstates the strength and resiliency of our destination.”

Heavy passenger traffic is expected at MYR for the foreseeable future. Travelers are reminded to please arrive at the airport a minimum of two (2) hours prior to departure time to avoid missing their flight.
