Expanded Air Service Strengthens Myrtle Beach’s Visitor Economy

Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) continues to expand its reach, creating new opportunities for visitation, economic growth, and destination accessibility across the Grand Strand.

Contour Airlines Launches Service at MYR

MYR recently welcomed Contour Airlines as its newest airline partner, adding nonstop service to Beckley and Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Altoona, Pennsylvania. The new routes provide additional access to the Myrtle Beach area from markets that previously had limited nonstop connectivity.

Expanded air service plays an important role in supporting the local tourism industry. New routes increase the destination's visibility, make travel more convenient for visitors, and help drive demand for accommodations, attractions, restaurants, retail, and other tourism-related businesses throughout the region.

“Our team continuously works to expand air service opportunities based on traveler demand, and this new route provides a convenient and affordable option for our passengers,” said Judi Olmstead, Director of Airports. “We appreciate Contour’s investment in our community and look forward to a successful partnership.”

Existing Carriers Continue to Grow

MYR is currently served by Allegiant, American, Avelo, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Sun Country, and United, with several carriers continuing to invest in additional service.

Southwest Airlines recently announced new nonstop service between Myrtle Beach and Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport, creating a direct connection to one of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas and expanding access to a key visitor market.

Breeze Airways has also announced new nonstop service to Atlantic City International Airport beginning October 22, providing another convenient travel option for visitors considering Myrtle Beach for future vacations and getaways.

Supporting Long-Term Growth

As air service expands, so does Myrtle Beach’s ability to attract new visitors and strengthen relationships with existing markets.

“Convenient access is a key factor in travel decisions, and every new nonstop route makes Myrtle Beach more accessible to potential visitors,” said Diane Charno, EVP of Marketing & Communications for Visit Myrtle Beach. “As air service continues to grow, so do the opportunities for our tourism industry to reach new audiences and welcome more travelers to the Grand Strand.”
