Myrtle Beach, South Carolina continues to rank as one of the fastest-growing family and vacation destinations in the nation, attracting approximately 20 million visitors annually. Given its accessibility and variety of attractions for couples and families alike, the Myrtle Beach area received several new accolades in 2019 including being ranked number one on USA Today’s list of “50 Cities Where Everyone Wants to Live,” one of Yahoo! Myrtle Beach Downtown Historic District Certified on National Register of Historic Places
Myrtle Beach has a new listing on the National Register of Historic Places! The Downtown Historic District was officially certified on Friday, October 18. It includes portions of Main Street, Eighth Avenue North, Ninth Avenue North, North Kings Highway, Broadway Street and North Oak Street. The description states:

The annual America's Best Cities Report ranks the 50 Best Large American Cities, as well as the 50 Best Small American Cities.

New Nonstop Flight from London to Charleston Begins in April 2019
The first nonstop transatlantic flight from Europe to South Carolina was announced last month. British Airways will have two flights per week from London’s Heathrow Airport to Charleston International Airport from April 4 to October 24 beginning in 2019. This is great news for Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand because it will be even easier for European visitors to get to the Grand Strand and enjoy the many attractions, including the beaches, golf courses and more.
Hurricane Florence: Potential Impact and Relief Efforts
In anticipation of the potential effects of Hurricane Florence, the Help the Grand Strand disaster recovery fund is now accepting donations. The funds collected for the “Help The Grand Strand” disaster recovery fund will be used for human services that may be unmet, enabling the residents of the entire Grand Strand area to recover as quickly as possible.
City, County Leaders taking strategic steps to plan for the future of the Grand Strand
U.S. Census Bureau information indicates that for the third year in a row, the Grand Strand was the second-fastest growing metropolitan area in the entire country. Yearlong residents and visitors alike have no-doubt experienced some of those growing pains, but it hasn’t deterred people from coming to our destination for their vacation, or from calling the Grand Strand home. In fact, 45 people move to the Myrtle Beach area every day, according to the same Census Bureau information. In 2017, the Myrtle Beach area had 19.6 million visitors – up from a little over 18 million in 2016.
MBACC Forms Ocean Walk Task Force
Committee unifies organizations to revitalize downtown Myrtle Beach. In February 2018, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce created a new committee designed to unite organizations that seek to revitalize downtown Myrtle Beach. The new Ocean Walk Task Force is a collaborative effort between the chamber, City of Myrtle Beach, and downtown merchants to drive improvements to the downtown area.

The 60 miles of pristine beaches and white sand that make up the Grand Strand are our most important and treasured resource. As such, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and our local elected delegation, understand the importance of protecting and preserving our number one attraction. These beaches support our local economy and bring millions of tourists to the Grand Strand year-after-year. Our beaches also serve as a barrier to protect over $3.5 billion worth of oceanfront property and provide a habitat to sea turtles, shore birds and marine wildlife.
