Beach Renourishment Project Continues Along the Grand Strand

Beach renourishment efforts continue along the Grand Strand as crews progress through Myrtle Beach and prepare to move farther south in the coming weeks. While the project temporarily impacts small sections of the beach, it plays a critical role in protecting one of the area's greatest tourism assets for years to come.

Beach renourishment widens the shoreline and strengthens the dune system, helping protect oceanfront homes, businesses, public infrastructure, and the beaches that attract millions of visitors each year. The project repairs erosion caused by recent storms while improving the long-term resilience of the coastline.

Current Project Status

The locally funded Arcadian Shores renourishment project has been completed, and work is now focused on additional portions of Myrtle Beach as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' federally funded renourishment project. Once Myrtle Beach is complete, construction will continue south into Reach 3, which includes Surfside Beach, Garden City, and portions of Georgetown County. Work in those areas is expected to continue through August, weather and equipment conditions permitting.

What Partners Should Know

Although active construction remains visible in certain areas, the vast majority of the beach remains open throughout the project. Only the contractor's immediate work zone and a limited number of adjacent beach accesses are temporarily closed while sand is being placed. Visitors can simply use the next available public beach access to enjoy the beach.

As always, construction schedules remain subject to weather, equipment availability, and other operational factors.

Helping Set Visitor Expectations

Tourism partners play an important role in helping visitors understand why beach renourishment is taking place. While temporary inconveniences are possible in active work areas, the project ensures the Grand Strand's beaches remain healthy, resilient, and enjoyable for residents and visitors well into the future.

Partners are encouraged to direct guests to the online Beach Renourishment Tracker for the latest construction locations and project updates before and during their stay.
