MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—As summer heats up, so does Myrtle Beach’s reputation as a premier sports tourism destination. With a full calendar of sports events scheduled from June through Labor Day, local venues are geared up to welcome thousands of athletes, families and fans from across the country.
“From youth to amateur sports, the summer sports tourism season has arrived in the Myrtle Beach area, one of the country’s top destinations for athletic events,” said Jonathan Paris, Visit Myrtle Beach Executive Director of Sports Tourism. “The energy and economic boost that these events bring to our area is incredible, and the diversity and range of sports represented showcases the capabilities of our world-class facilities and our community’s commitment to hosting sports events.”
Families who travel to the Myrtle Beach area for sporting events typically extend their stay, according to Paris, who further emphasized that sports tourism has a positive impact on the region’s quality of life, supporting local businesses and jobs, infrastructure and public services, reducing the tax burden for residents and facilitating world-class facilities for local athletes.
